Six Mile Grove Church to mark sesquicentennial

Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church of rural Lyle, one of the first Scandinavian churches in Mower County, is celebrating 150 years Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6.
The Sept. 5 events begin at 2 p.m. with an interpreter providing a perspective on Norwegian immigration. Local musicians will perform, and there will be displays of past events, outdoor games and children’s events. A tent and tepee will provide places for guests to tell stories.
On Sept. 6, a service will begin at 10 a.m., with a sermon by Bishop Harold Usgaard. A group photograph at 11:30 a.m. and a noon meal precede the program. Guests will be served coffee and refreshments at 4 p.m.
