An Austin boy suffered minor injuries when his bicycle collided with a car on Oakland Avenue Thursday.
Dylan Steidl, 11, was going east on the 1800 block of Oakland and attempted to U-turn, which is when he hit the front end of a car being driven by Sara Robertson, 23, of Austin.
Robertson said she was going about 20 mph, according to a police report.
She went to check on Steidl, who suffered some scrapes to his arms and said he was OK.
The boy was not wearing a helmet, according to the report.
His mom, Danielle, arrived and also said he would be fine.
Oakland Avenue has been the site of a few bike accidents in recent weeks, and police chief Paul Philipp said Friday that it’s important for bikers and motorists alike to pay careful attention.
“It’s about being aware of your surroundings,” he said.
