A 62-year-old Austin man was injured when his bike was struck by a vehicle Monday, but he was talking with authorities later that evening.

Michael Merriott was traveling west on Oakland Avenue near the 600 block when he attempted to cross the road and hit the side of a car driven by Harold Gaul, Jr., 52, also from Austin.

Both Merriott and Gaul, Jr., said they did not see each other until impact.

Authorities found Merriott on the ground bleeding some. He did not appear to be wearing a helmet.

Merriott was taken by ambulance to Austin Medical Center, where he later spoke to authorities about the accident. Further details of his injuries were not immediately available Tuesday.

Gaul, Jr., is not expected to be cited for his part in the accident.
