Lions to erect trail info building

A new trail-info building could be coming to Oakland Avenue, courtesy of the Austin Noon Lions and the parks and recreation board.
On Tuesday, the board approved a Lions plan to build a 16-by-10-foot gathering spot that will have information on local trails, as well as a few benches.
The building would still need city approval, as well as Minnesota Department of Natural Resources authorization.
The building would go up near the former Eagles site at Oakland and Fourth Street Northeast.
It would feature an open design covered by an overhanging roof.
The Lions would pay for construction costs, but the building would become city property — though parks and recreation director Kim Underwood said she expects upkeep costs to be minimal.
