Local grads are stepping up for college teams

A few local high school graduates have been making their mark in the college athletic ranks this fall.

Elliot Herdina, a 2008 Blooming Prairie graduate, is leading Gustavus Adolphus College in receiving and scoring so far this season. Herdina has 15 catches for 158 yards (10.8 average) and three touch downs. He also has seven rushes for 20 yards (2.9 average) and 108 return yards.

Darin Wagner, a 2008 Hayfield graduate, is also playing for Gustavus (1-2 overall). He has three tackles with a half a tackle for loss and a half a sack.

Spencer Ohm, a 2007 graduate of Blooming Prairie is off to a good start as the quaterback at Concorida University in St. Paul.

Ohm has completed 54.4 percent of his passes for 616 yards and two scores and three interceptions for Concordia (1-4 overall).

Marcus Ball, an Austin grad and University of Wisconsin-Stout senior, has two tackles and a tackle for loss for the Blue Devils (3-0 overall) this season.

Catherine Wagner, a 2009 Austin grad, has played eight rounds of golf so far at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with an average score of 79.3, the second best mark on the Blugolds.

She took sixth at the UWEC Invite and second at the O’Brien National Invitational.

Pacelli graduate Colin Sheehan has been running cross country at Saint Mary’s University in Winona.

He finished the 6K Winona meet with a time of 21:36 (8th best finish for SMU), he ran the four-mile SMU Open in 24:46 (8th best finish for SMU), and he ran the Roy Griak 8K race in 31:06 (7th best finish for SMU).

Sheehan made it to the Class ‘A’ state meet last season for the Shamrocks.

Nichelle Grage, a 2009 Austin grad, has gotten in one game so far for the University of Minnesota Morris volleyball team (7-10 overall). She had one serve receive and two assists.
