Austin police found 25 snakes slithering around in a bucket in an Austin woman’s backyard Tuesday.
A neighbor reported to police that Rachel Coyger, 27, of 909 12th Ave. S.E., had the reptilian friends.
The snakes were later identified as non-dangerous fox snakes and ranged in size from eight inches to a foot.
Coyger told an animal control officer that her young boys had brought home some eggs but that they didn’t know they were snakes.
The woman wasn’t cited, but the officer contacted the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center and made plans to release the snakes there.
No one was reported bitten.
