Two Austin residents believed to be linked to a number of recent area break-ins were charged with numerous counts of burglary Friday after they were caught in someone’s home earlier this week.
Arsenio Broderick Hanson, 22, faces two counts of first-degree burglary, both felonies. A 15-year-old male also faces two counts of first-degree burglary in juvenile court, as well as two counts of third-degree burglary.
The two were arrested Wednesday night when police found them hiding in a home in the 700 block of Eighth Avenue Northwest wearing ski masks and carrying a crowbar.
The juvenile wrestled with police while being led away, and Hanson had to be “drive stunned” by a Taser before he was arrested, according to a police report.
Police found an MP3 player on the juvenile and were able to link it to a man living on the same block.
That man, 59, later told police that two of his garages had been broken into earlier that night and a few of his cars had been rifled through.
After more investigation, police recovered a gun that had been reported stolen from a house on the 600 block of 11th Avenue Southwest over the weekend.
The weapon was found at the home of the girlfriend of one of the suspects.
Also recovered from a different location were a few items taken from a home on the 600 block of Eighth Avenue Southwest during the weekend.
Police believe Hanson and the young male are responsible for the incidents, and possibly for a few other burglaries in recent weeks.
