Kids can put on their costumes a bit early this Halloween and stop by a carnival for some daytime trick or treating.

Tots through teens are invited to Power 96’s fourth annual Kid’s Hotel Halloween Carnival Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the AmericInn of Austin.

At least 18 rooms will be uniquely decorated by local businesses for a not-too-spooky Halloween trick-or-treat tour, and there will be candy and games.

Attendees will be able to vote on their favorite rooms.

First through third place will be awarded plaques.

“There are going to be lots of prizes, worth more than $3,000, and fun for the whole family,” said KQPR 96.1 FM’s general manager Anna Rahn.

The first 15 families will receive a Mall of America “Family Fun Pack,” which includes four passes to Nickelodean Universe, the movie theater and Moose Mountain Adventure Golf.

The first 300 kids will go home with complimentary Halloween bags, and one boy and one girl will each win a dozen John Deere collectable toys.

Representatives from Austin Fire and Sherriff Departments will be there to talk to families about safe trick-or-treating that night.

This is a free event, and free will donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted and donated to local Salvation Army food shelves.

“We are highly encouraging people to donate this year because of the condition that food shelves are in,” Rahn said.

Costumes are optional at the carnival and all kids must be accompanied by an adult.

The following sponsors will each decorate a room: AmericInn; Great Clips; Hormel Foods; Parenting Resource Center; Girl Scouts; The Salvation Army; Austin Public Library; Boy Scouts of America; Family Focus; Austin Public Schools; Paramount and Matchbox Childrens Theatres; Classic Country Legends KQAQ 970 am;Power 96; Vote Yes for Kids Nov. 3; Christopher Rex Photography; Austin Smart Clinic; and Overby Orthodontics.
