James Stewart Senjem, Sr. 66, of Hayfield, (Oslo) Minn. died Oct. 3, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
James Stewart Senjem, Sr. was born March 19, 1943, the son of Oswald and Elna (Hyland) Senjem in Hayfield. James graduated from Hayfield High School and married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Johnson, on Sept. 2, 1961. He retired from IBM after 30 years and worked part time at Tiegen’s Oslo Store the last 10 years. He was a member of West St. Olaf Church and a former council member, choir member, and usher. He was also a member of the Hap-hazards band. He enjoyed the outdoors and in his earlier years, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. For many years, he and his wife enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Round Lake near Aitkin, Minn. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his four beloved grandchildren. He enjoyed attending local lutefisk dinners, having a cup of coffee with friends and sharing a hearty laugh over a good joke.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; two sons, Jim Senjem, Jr. of Mantorville, Minn and Mark (Tammy) Senjem of Pine Island, Minn.; four grandchildren, Sarah (Blake) Smith, Benjamin Senjem, Ashley Senjem, and Tyler Senjem; two sisters, Joanne Glynn of LaCrosse, Wis.; and Judy (Lon) Jones of Rochester, Minn.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at West St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 70640 260th Ave., rural Hayfield, Minn. with Reverend Darby Lawrence officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield, 501 2nd St. NW, and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in West St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hayfield, Minn.
