A major craft and fabrics store is expressing interest in moving into Austin late next year.
Jo-Ann Fabrics, which has 1,000 stores across the U.S. and employs 20,000 people, would open up shop near the Target in northwest Austin.
According to a company spokeswoman, the move is targeted for the second half of 2010.
No final agreement has been reached with property owner Centro Properties Group.
A deal would likely include 17,000 square feet and would likely reduce the space currently allotted to Rooms and Rest, community development director Craig Hoium said.
On Tuesday, the Austin Planning Commission approved an addition to a nearby highway sign that would promote the fabrics store.
In a letter to the commission, leasing representative Patrick Borgman noted that Jo-Ann’s had requested the measure before going forward with a potential agreement.
The sign addition will go before city council Monday.
