John Geraghty

John Michael Geraghty, 79, died Oct. 17, 2009 at his home in Clayton, Calif.
He was born in Austin on May 4, 1930.
He attended the University of Minnesota before serving for the US Air Force during the Korean War. After returning, he was employed by the Hormel Food Company in Austin. He was very active in the union, politics, and the Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he was named an Outstanding Young Man of America.
He moved to Concord, Calif. in 1967 where he resumed his education at St. Mary’s College in Moraga and San Francisco State University where he earned his degree in Psychology. He worked for the Contra Costa County DUI Program for almost 30 years where he counseled thousands of clients, many of whom are now his friends.
He was an active member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Clayton, Calif. where he taught confirmation classes for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He coached Little League in Austin and Concord, California and was an avid fan of the Oakland Athletics.
Mike will be remembered for his friendliness, his compassion for others, his courage through adversity, and commitment to his clients, and most all for his love of family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years Dorothy; children, Maurice Geraghty, Margaret Porter, and Colleen Geraghty; grandchildren, Kevin, Timothy, Sarah, Amy, Kelly and Leo; and sister Marjorie Voecks.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Edna, and his brothers Patrick, Edmond and Maurice.
Memorial Mass will held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23 2009 at St. Bonaventure’s Church in Concord, Calif. followed by placement at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette, Calif.
