LETTER: It was a united effort
Published 7:41 am Tuesday, October 6, 2009
On Saturday, Sept. 26 United Way’s fourth annual Day of Caring took place. The week leading up to the event was less than ideal weather wise, but we could not have asked for a more perfect day when it finally came.
We would like to extend a heart felt thank you to the 236 volunteers who came together that Saturday afternoon to help those in need. Projects ranged from window washing, yard clean up, to house painting and green space clean at a number of local parks.
This was the largest turnout we’ve had for Day of Caring to date, and our volunteers were exceptional.
A special thank you to the teams that were not able to complete their projects on Saturday because of the wet conditions, but have promised to finish them at a later date and to the teams who went above and beyond what their project entailed to help out the homeowner.
We had tremendous support from various partners in our community. We would like to thank our sponsors: KIMT TV, who provided lunch and Games People Play, for donating Day of Caring T-shirts to all who participated. Thank you to Donut Connection and HRA for donating to the kick off breakfast and to Austin Public Schools for the use of AHS Cafeteria.
You all represented what living united is about.
If you would like to continue to help in our community you can contact our office at 437-2313 or log onto our Web site at www.uwmower.org.
Thank you,
Mandi Lighthizer-Schmidt
