Steve Harrison is putting sailing, bicycling and spending time with his grandchildren at the top of his to-do list.

The owner and photographer of The Studio of Fine Photography is retiring —in part at least — Nov. 1.

As of Nov. 1, The Studio will become mobile, and begin closing its location near Main Street.

Harrison will be doing on-location work only and his staff will work from home.

This includes senior and family portraits, but his specializations will be sports, preschool and dance portraits.

“I am not going to seek work or advertise, but I will still do the work I enjoy most and continue working with past customers,” he said.

Paul Stenhjem started the business in his home and in 1988 opened The Studio. In 1995, he was ready to retire.

Harrison, an amateur photographer since his days in the U.S. Navy, learned the business by working aside Paul for two years. He worked nights at Hormel Foods in the mechanical department at the same time. In 1997 Harrison took over The Studio.

After 21 years in business, The Studio of Photography will go back to its roots as being studio-less.

“I’m not ready to be done yet,” Harrison, whose passion for photography continues, said.

“But I am going to do much less work. The retired part is important,” he added.

The Studio, 104 11th Ave. NW, Suite B, will have a sale of equipment and props Nov. 13 through Nov. 16.

Customers interested in purchasing their negatives or digital files can contact The Studio for further information at 433-2195. Several display prints are also available at discounted prices.
