Rebels cruise past Kenyon/Wanamingo

The Southland football team scored all the points it needed in the first half of a 46-7 win over Kenyon/Wanamingo in the first round of the Section 2AA playoffs in Adams Tuesday.
The third-seeded Rebels, who will play at No. 2 Waterville/Elysian/Morristown Saturday at 7 p.m., took a 40-0 lead to the break and they pulled most of their starters in the second half.
“Our younger kids got in and that’s the future of our program,” Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said. “They played pretty good and got some good experience.”
The Rebels (8-1 overall) piled up 339 yards on the ground and freshman Mike Goergen was the first Southland runner to surpass the century mark on the season as he ran for 115 yards.
Chris May had a 70-yard interception return for a score and Zach Heimer had a 32-yard interception return for a score for Southland.
