Rev. Karl Langrock

Rev. Karl Frederick Langrock, 82, of Wilsonville, Ore. died at his home on Oct. 14, 2009 due to complications of congestive heart failure.

Karl was born on Jan. 26, 1927 in Toeterville, Iowa, which was founded by his great-grandfather Henry Toeter. He spent his younger years in rural Mitchell County, Iowa.

He graduated from Cedar Falls High School. Advanced degrees were from Northern Iowa University, the University of Iowa and Lutheran School of Theology in Maywood, Ill. Later he served Lutheran congregations in Illinois, was director of development at Berea College in Kentucky and 16 years as President of Grandview University in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee H. and Alice D. (Grube) Langrock; sisters, Adeline and Hildgard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rose Marie; two children, daughter, Laura (Rick) Croshaw of Sherwood, Ore. and son, Charles (Debra) Langrock of Des Moines, Iowa. ; sister, Lenore (Neal) Winkler; three nieces; two nephews; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday Oct. 31, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4675 Goldenrod Ave., Toeterville, Iowa, with a committal service following at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Toeterville.
