A California man accused of trashing a truck after being fired from his job as a driver in Mower County pleaded guilty Thursday.
Timothy O’Hara Florian, 41, of Poway, Calif., will be sentenced April 22 on one count of first-degree property damage, a gross misdemeanor in this case after his plea agreement.
According to a criminal complaint, Florian was fired from his job with Racine, Minn.-based Pyramid Transportation Aug. 15, but operations manager Jay King allowed him to stay in a semi “sleeper” for a few days.
When King arrived to the semi on Aug. 17, Florian had left and a metal rod had been shoved through the truck’s speedometer. Gauges on the dashboard were also all smashed out and “FO” was scratched into the paint on the outside of the semi, the complaint states.
The damage totaled $7,251, plus another $3,500 for the five days the truck was out of service for repairs.
Florian called a Mower County deputy Aug. 17 and admitted to causing the damage, saying he “lost his cool.” He said he was on his way back to California and would turn himself in to local authorities.
The charge against Florian was originally a felony but was pleaded down to a gross misdemeanor. Also as part of his plea, Florian will pay the $7,251 in restitution.
Whether he pays the additional $3,500 will be determined at a April 21 hearing.
