Two incidents got the police’s attention Tuesday at Austin High School.
At around 8:30 a.m., a 14-year-old male student was arrested on suspicion of alcohol possession on school grounds.
The boy was seen trying to give a bottle of Coors Light beer to a second person near the Godfather’s Pizza on Oakland Avenue.
The 14-year-old had the beer in his backpack and likely went to meet the other person after getting off the school bus at AHS.
The juvenile suspect told a school liaison officer he found the beer on the ground near Godfather’s, but a police report indicates it likely came from home.
The bottle was later found nearby on Fifth Street Northwest and was only a quarter full, but the student registered a 0.0 on a breathalyzer test.
Later in the day, a 16-year-old female student had to be handcuffed and escorted after a verbal confrontation in the main office.
At around 2:55 p.m., the student entered the office and asked for her cell phone back. An administrator told the girl she couldn’t have it until the end of the day, at which point the student began yelling and swearing, according to a police report.
The administrator told the student to leave but she refused. When a liaison officer came to escort her, she flailed at him and had to be forced to the ground and handcuffed.
The girl was eventually taken by an officer back to her residence. She was cited with disorderly conduct.
