A 53-year-old Wisconsin man was arrested Thursday night for drunkenly driving the wrong way on Interstate 90 between Elkton and Grand Meadow.
The man, who had not been formally charged as of Friday morning, went down the freeway for several miles around 8:30 p.m. before turning onto a median and becoming stuck, according to a sheriff’s department report.
No one was injured during the incident.
When deputies arrived to the stuck vehicle, the 53-year-old man appeared heavily intoxicated but refused to give a breath test.
An open bottle of brandy was found in his vehicle, the report states.
Several people called the incident in as they swerved to avoid the wrong-way vehicle.
The report does not indicate how fast the car was going.
The suspect is likely to be charged with second-degree driving while intoxicated, as well as for refusing to submit to the breath test, sheriff Terese Amazi said. Those charges are expected later Friday.
The Westby, Wisc., resident has two prior DWIs in his home state, according to the report.
