Get out there and go skiing

It’s an opportunity that doesn’t exist in many parts of the country. In Mower County, however, there are miles of cross country ski trails in our own backyard.
The trails at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center officially opened last week, giving residents a nice chance to get outside for some exercise this winter and to enjoy an inexpensive form of entertainment.
The deal has been made even sweeter by the generosity of Dr. Richard and Belita Schindler, whose donation now brings the cost of ski rentals for youth 18 and under from $6 to $1.
There is also no day pass required for youth 15 and under, making the cost for youth in that age range $1 for three hours of skiing.
Teens and younger children are always looking for something to do with their free time, and cross county skiing is a nice option in Mower County.
We are fortunate enough to have these trails, and the generosity of the Schindlers makes cross country skiing a good, inexpensive option for families this winter.
