Girl suffers minor injuries during dog bite

A 12-year-old girl suffered minor injuries after being bitten by a dog Saturday in Austin.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in front of a residence at 1009 10th Ave. SW, where the dog was tethered to a clothesline.

According to a police report, the girl seemed to know the dog’s name and went up to pet it. When the dog started growling, she turned to walk away but was bit in her thigh and rib area.

The girl sustained some scratches and bruises, as well as a few minor puncture wounds. She was treated at Austin Medical Center.

Authorities spoke with the dog’s owner and warned to keep a closer eye on it. No citations were issued, however.

The dog’s breed was not specified in the report.
