Taxi! Taxi!

This isn’t New York City, and you’re not going to be able to hail a ride like that if you need one on New Year’s Eve.

But, the local AB Taxi and Shuttle Service will have extra cars out Thursday night and will be waiting by the phone around the clock for calls.

“We get about 200 calls on New Year’s Eve,” AB Taxi and Shuttle Service owner Greg Thompson said.

That is about twice the number of average calls on a busy weekend, he added.

On typical nights the company has four cars out at a time, but Thursday the entire fleet of six will be out. On weekdays, he normally has two in commission.

Six drivers will work the night shift, and two others will have worked during the day.

It will be easiest to call a cab early — or quite late.

Thompson said the service should be quite busy from midnight to the early hours of the morning.

Smoking and alcohol are not aloud in the taxis.

Taxi prices range depending on destination. Cash and local checks are accepted.

In many cases, patrons can buy a safe ride home for about the cost of another drink.
