A mother reported to police that two 9-year-olds stole several items from unlocked vehicles in Austin on Saturday afternoon.
The young boy and girl took two $1 bills, as well as a credit card, from two different cars on the 200 block of Fourth Avenue SE.
The girl’s mom reported the crime.
Police went to the house of the young boy, who said it was the girl’s idea and that she told him to hide the stolen property in his garage. All the items were recovered and returned.
Police chief Paul Philipp said the two are too young to be charged in court, but some type of human services counseling is possible.
