A 49-year-old Austin man was sentenced to at least five years in prison last week for sexually abusing two girls nearly 14 years ago.

Scott Obert Grindeland pleaded guilty last month to single counts of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct stemming from two different cases. He was charged with abusing two girls, who were younger than 13 at the time, in 1996.

Judge Donald E. Rysavy levied a 98-month sentence against Grindeland, of which 64 months — or just more than five years — will have to be served in prison before he is eligible for supervised release, according to court records.

Grindeland will also pay a $928 fine to the Crime Victims Reparations Board. The victims can file additional restitution claims within a year.

Grindeland was ordered to not have contact with the victims or their families, complete sex offender treatment and register with the predatory offender list.

Grindeland entered a not-guilty plea on all charges against him in February before amending his plea.
