A slow first half was too much for the Riverland women’s basketball team to overcome in a 71-57 loss at Gustavus JV Wednesday.
The Blue Devils (3-3 overall) trailed 45-24 at the break after forward Krista Viehauser sat out most of the first half with foul trouble.
“We played a horrible first half and foul trouble set us back,” RCC head coach Suzy Hebrink said.
Viehauser scored most of her 12 points in the second half and she also pulled down 11 rebounds. Brooke Rosenstiel, a freshman from Mankato West, added nine points, eight rebounds and three steals for RCC, which closed to within seven points at one point in the second half.
“We played well, but we just couldn’t get much closer after falling behind so far,” Hebrink said.
Mandy May scored 10 points for RCC, Holly Waltz and Joni Lillo scored eight, and Danyel Hythecker scored four points.
