The Austin High wrestlers placed second at the 12-team Faribault Dick Shiels Invitational Saturday. The Packers scored 160.5 points, behind tournament champion Kasson-Mantorville’s 275.5. Blooming Prairie was 12th with 38 points.

Leading the way for Austin was Michael Hirsh, who placed first at 189 pounds, going 3-0.

“Michael had an outstanding day,” said William Kinney, Austin head wrestling coach. “He has become very well known, even to the coaches of the Wisconsin schools at this tournament. He isn’t able to sneak up on people anymore. He wrestled solidly on Saturday and shook off a little more of the early season rust. He has improved his technique since last year and will only get better with time.”
