The Super Bowl is known for parties, which is why the Minnesota State Patrol will be carefully watching for impaired driving today.
The state’s Department of Public Safety reports that during the last three Super Bowl weekends, 1,474 Minnesota drivers were arrested for DWIs. During the same time period, alcohol-related crashes accounted for five out of seven motorists killed on Minnesota roads.
“The key to the game is to hand your keys off to a sober driver,” said Lt. Eric Roeske of the state patrol in a press release. “Drivers arrested for DWI will find their lives in very poor field position with consequences such as jail time, loss of license and huge costs.”
The lieutenant urged football fans to figure out post-game driving plans before kickoff.
