A few local teenagers were their own worst enemies during separate drinking and driving incidents over the weekend.
On Friday around 11 p.m., a 19-year-old Austin woman driving over the speed limit happened to pass a Mower County deputy’s squad car while on Interstate 90 near Dexter, sheriff Terese Amazi said.
When the deputy detected that the woman had been drinking, she was cited for underage drinking, unlawful driving after consumption, lack of insurance and expired registration. Her passenger, a 19-year-old woman from Northfield, Minn., was also cited for underage drinking.
A while later, a 19-year-old man from rural Sargeant got himself into a heap of trouble when he pulled up behind a squad car at a Dexter residence.
Deputies had arrived at the home at around 12:45 a.m. Saturday to bust up a party, and six minors were cited for underage consumption.
When the 19-year-old got out of his vehicle, deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol on him and arrested the man for driving while impaired. He was eventually released to a responsible adult.
