A St. Paul man who attacked another man with a chair at a Brownsdale bar last summer was sentenced Friday to a one-year probation term.
Joseph Mark Schlief, 41, will also pay $300 in restitution to the victim, who had redness and swelling above his left ear after the attack, according to a criminal complaint.
That victim said the attack was unprovoked, and he was only defending himself. A witness at the scene corroborated the story.
In addition to attacking the other man, Schlief also caused roughly $650 in damage to the Keg Bar, 112 South Mill St., by striking the bar counter with the chair.
For his actions, Schlief was charged with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, as well as two lesser offenses.
