It will be nothing but a good time this weekend in the Riverside Area — literally.

The Riverside Figure Skating Club (RFSC) presents its 36th Annual Ice Show titled “Nothing But A Good Time” Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Ranging in age from five to 18, 50 figure skaters will take the ice during the show that features solos, duets and team routines — performed to 80s music.

The 80s theme includes featured songs such as Madonna’s “Material Girl,” Toni Basil’s “Hey Mickey,” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

“I keep telling people that if they watched the Olympic figure skating events, they are going to see a lot of similar things,” said Christine Seppanen, RFSC treasurer and parent. “Not at that exact same competitive level, but they will see talented, advanced, beautiful skating.”

Each high school senior in the club will perform a special solo, and the five will also take part in a special senior group routine to “Whip It” by Devo.

There will also be a dads and daughters performance included in the two-hour show.

“This is our annual, big showcase. We have a lot of talent to show this year,” Seppanen said.

Tickets to the “Nothing But A Good Time” Annual Ice Show are $8 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens, and free for children under 5. They are available at HyVee, from any skater and at the door of Riverside Arena, 502 Second Ave. NE.

RFSC is a sanctioned club of U.S. Figure Skating. The club is coached by Chris Amy, who has been coaching with the club for more than 28 years, and Paul Paprocki, who is the skating director of the Rochester Figure Skating Club. RFSC is run by parent and community volunteers.

The ice show marks the finale of RFSC’s fall and winter seasons, but a spring skating session begins March 21.
