Ownership at a local Mexican grocery could face charges for selling alcohol without the proper license.
On Thursday afternoon, police confiscated 19 bottles of alcohol from Tienda Y Taqueria Guerrero, located at 301 Fourth Ave. NE. Local law enforcement were notified of the alleged illegal sales by a state alcohol enforcement agency.
According to a police report, The Minnesota Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division had warned the store about selling the alcohol off the shelf before. When another recent violation was reported, that agency turned the case over to local law enforcement.
The confiscated alcohol was described in the report as 20-proof and used primarily for cooking.
Tienda Y Taqueria Guerrero does have licensure to sell alcohol in its restaurant, but a separate license is required to sell off the shelf.
The case has been turned over to the city attorney’s office for review.
