A 61-year-old woman reported to police that she was the victim of an attempted robbery early Tuesday while walking home from work.
According to a police report, the woman was walking on Oakland Avenue East near Fourth Street at around 1:10 a.m. when a man described as being roughly 5 feet 11 inches tall, in his early-20s, and wearing a dark blue or green jacket and sunglasses approached her and asked for money.
The woman said she had no money and continued walking toward the Chauncey Apartments area. However, the man came after her again and said, “I know you have money,” the report states. At this point, he allegedly grabbed the woman’s backpack and began wrestling her for it.
The woman then threw her cell phone at the man in a defensive manner. He fled, and the woman said she believes he took her phone in the process, the report states. All of this was reported to police when the woman arrived home, roughly 10 to 15 minutes after the alleged incident.
Police were unable to find anyone matching the woman’s description in the area and are continuing to investigate.
