At least 16 BB cases reported to police

Austin police are now investigating at least 16 different cases of property damage caused by BB gun fire as two more people called in reports Thursday.
The first new incident, called in by a property owner in the 400 block of Main Street South, is actually believed to have occurred on April 15 — before what apparently was a rash of incidents between late Tuesday night and early Wednesday. However, the owner said he called in with the information after reading about the other cases in the newspaper.
The other new report came from Citi Financial Services at 1202 Main Street North. Staff there noticed damage to several windows facing Main Street.
Three other businesses — Ruskell Hardware on 18th Avenue Northwest, Jerry’s Other Place on Main Street and Subway on Oakland Avenue — previously reported damage.
Calls first started coming into police at around 4 a.m. Wednesday from the Fourth Avenue Northwest area between the 800 block and 1100 block, where numerous vehicles were damaged. An individual who reported that he heard a noise similar to sand hitting metal also saw an SUV leave the area.
That vehicle is described as dark-colored, small and older. Police have not determined a make or model, but have said it is similar in style to a Chevrolet Blazer.
No suspect or suspects have been identified in the case, and Lt. John Mueller said it is too early in the investigation to say definitively how many people were involved and whether all the cases were related.
The overall damage is estimated at several thousand dollars.
