The Austin boys golf team opened its season with a 331-381 win over Mankato East at Austin County Club Tuesday.

The Packers were led by meet medalist Luke Hoefflin, who shot a 79 on a day with heavy winds.

“Luke had a great day of golf considering the conditions,” Austin head coach Will Pazurek said.

The Packers’ other three golfers all shot in the 80s as Nick Tabor had an 82, Mark Thorson shot an 85, and Scott Snyder had an 87.

Pazurek said the squad has room for improvement from its team score of 333.

“The scores will come down,” he said. “We have a lot of potential and I think 320 would be a good average for this team.”
