Austinaires return with annual show

Austin High School’s singers take the stage for their annual show later this week.
The Austinaires present the concerts featuring the Choralaires Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the high school’s Christgau Hall.
More than 50 high school students will sing during the concert, performing show tunes, Disney songs and numbers from the hit TV show “Glee.”
“Each night we feature senior solos and duets from the Austinaires group,” said Brian Johnson, AHS choir conductor.
Spotlight soloists include Tyler Slack, Sydney Hataye, Kelsey Fleming, Scarlett DeWild, Tim Erickson, Breanna Stegenga and Megan Wuertz. Featured solo numbers are songs originally sung by Regina Spektor, Taylor Swift, Ingrid Michaelson and Dave Matthews among others.
Featured songs by The Austinaires, a mixed voice ensemble of 26 singers, and The Choralaires, a 25-voice group of 10th through 12th grade girls, include “Somebody to Love,” “Don’t Stop Believin,’” “Colors of the Wind” and “Fever” from “Glee,” as well as Disney medleys.
The combinations change a bit each night, so there will be something new for those who want to attend more than one show, Johnson said.
“The show is always fun for all ages, because it includes music from many popular styles; the dancing and costumes are a treat for the eyes,” he said.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for senior citizens and students in advance at Hy-Vee or from the AHS cashier. Tickets are $1 more at the door.
