The deadline is approaching to pre-register for the second annual Dare to Care 5k Run/Walk.
Gerard Academy is accepting registration forms through Friday for the May 8 fun run that takes place on school grounds and in the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center.
The event is a fundraiser that helps the academy replace and purchase new recreation equipment, said Gerard recreation therapist Beth Giesen.
“Last year it was so much fun,” she said. “And it is a great way for the community to see what Gerard is all about.”
There will be time before the run to tour the Gerard grounds and meet residents.
“Some of our kids will be running, and a lot will be volunteering,” Giesen said. “They’ll be volunteering at water stations, passing out refreshments and cheering runners on.”
Though it is only a fun run, and people are welcome to walk, there will be prizes for the first place male and female runners.
T-shirts, water and refreshments will be given to all participants.
Gerard Academy offers residential treatment programs for children and teenagers with a variety of emotional and behavioral problems.
Pre-registration costs $15, and registration forms are available at www.nexustreatment.org. Race-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. May 8 and is $20.
