The Southland baseball team took an early lead and held on to beat Grand Meadow/LeRoy/Ostrander Kingsland (0-1 overall) in Spring Valley Thursday.
The Rebels (1-0 overall) scored six runs in the first two innings to take a 6-2 lead and Adam Kiefer out the game with three scoreless innings on the mound.
Southland rattled off 11 hits, but it left the bases loaded once and runners on second and third another time.
“It was kind of what I expected,” Southland head coach Scott Retterath said. “We’re still kind of rough around the edges and we had some baserunning blunders. We’ll come around, and I was impressed with our hitting.”
Southland’s pitchers combined to allow just two hits while striking out 11 in the win.
