Dean J. Vermilyea, 55, of West Concord, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Methodist Hospital, Rochester.
Dean was born Nov. 7, 1954 in Austin, the son of Everett and Ann (Vogelsang) Vermilyea. Dean was raised in Dexter and attended school in Elkton, Minn., graduating in 1973. He attended vocational school in Jackson, Minn. where he earned a degree in plumbing. Dean was united in marriage to Colleen Puncochar on Sept. 21, 1973 in New Prague.  They made their home in West Concord.  In 1987 Dean began Vermilyea Plumbing and operated his business up until the time of his illness.
Dean enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed grilling out for his family and for community events. He enjoyed a good game of golf with his son, Brandon, and sitting by the campfire while on camping trips and at his home. He was great at trivia, playing cards and enjoyed listening to music. Most important was having his children and grandchildren come over. He absolutely adored them. Dean loved life and lived it to the fullest. Only being diagnosed with cancer two months ago, he would do whatever they asked of him to get better. He knew it would be a battle, but he never complained. Dean will be sadly missed by his many friends, the community and his family.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Vermilyea of West Concord; daughter, Gwen (Jason) Boe of Dodge Center; son, Brandon (Amanda) Vermilyea of Dodge Center; his parents, Everett and Ann Vermilyea of Dexter; three brothers Ken (Elaine) Vermilyea of Blooming Prairie, Ron (Kaloha) Vermilyea of Bull Shoals, Ark., Dan (Joyce) Vermilyea of Austin; a sister, Cathy (Dave) Braaten of Dexter; his mother-in-law, Irene Puncochar of New Prague; six grandchildren, Madison, Parker and Jozey Boe and Cami, Cooper and Casey Vermilyea all of Dodge Center.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Vermilyea; his grandparents; and his father-in-law, Edwin Puncochar.
