Elmer Irving “Irv” Nagel, 76, of Austin, died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Sacred Heart Care Center. He was born July 28, 1933 to Elmer and Vina (Miller) Nagel near Lyle, Minn. He served in the Army from April 22, 1954 until Feb. 2, 1956, stationed in Japan. He married Kaye Ann Severson on July 14, 1956 in Carpenter, Iowa. Irv spent most of his life farming near Rose Creek. A member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, he enjoyed his computer, photography, motorcycle trips out west, snowmobiling, listening to music, especially the Gaithers, and spending time with his dog, York.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye of Austin; one son, Steven (Cheryl) Nagel of Plymouth; two daughters, Mary (Tony) Constancio of Austin; Cara (Trevor) Hansen of Austin; eight grandchildren, Brianna, Lindsey, Mariah, Jacy, Anthony, Braydon, Corey and Hunter; two brothers, Richard (Lois) Nagel of Rose Creek, Donald (Pamela) Nagel of Grand Rapids; one sister, Carolyn (Robert) McElfatrick of Deer River; mother-in-law, Faye Severson; brother-in-law, Bruce (Susan) Severson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Donald Severson.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Glenn Monson officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service at church. Interment is at Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle with military rites by American Legion Post 91.
Honorary casket bearers are Russell Ashley, Howard Classon, John Fossey, Bruce Gertner, Luther Meister, Larry Murphy, Richard Murphy and Norbert Schlichter.
The family prefers memorials to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or to Woodbury Cemetery.
