A former Miss Minnesota, a current sheriff, local beauty queen, a couple of TV anchors and a kindergarten principal are getting together this weekend in the name of glitz, glam and charity work.
Miss Minnesota 2008 Angie McDermott Himebaugh, Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi, Miss Austin Mandie Mickelson, KAAL Channel 6 anchors Besty Singer and Ericka Miller and Woodson Kindergarten Center Principal Jean McDermott are among local ladies modeling at the Sparkle Fashion Show this weekend. The third annual show raises money for the Mower County Relay for Life and takes place Saturday at Cornerstone Church, 1403 First Ave. SW.
Paul Pruitt will emcee the event.
Sparkle event organizer Angie Goetz said the show is a fun girls night out for all ages.
“We are excited to build on another year of Sparkle. Ultimately we are creating awareness about breast cancer, supporting local retailers by fashioning their clothing and providing a fun night for ladies. In addition to having a great time, we will be able to raise funds to support the Mower County Relay For Life,” she said.
The fashion show will feature clothing for all ages — from toddlers to senior citizens. Garments are provided by Maurices, Christopher & Banks, Belles & Beaus, ShopKo, South Central Athlete and Target.
There will be entertainment and drawings for prizes and dessert.
Among prizes, a Hy-Vee backyard barbeque for 20 guests will be auctioned off, valued at $1,500.
The doors will open at 5 p.m. and admission is $10, or $5 for girls ages 12 and under.
All proceeds benefit the Mower County Relay for Life.
