Folk-rock band readies for Paramount debut

Celtic and American folk-rock band Lehto & Wright make their Paramount Theatre debut later this week.
The Twin Cities-based traditional and modern folk trio play in Austin at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
“We’re excited to play there,” said John Wright, guitarist and vocalist. “It’s going to be a good show.”
Wright, Steve Lehto (guitar, mandolin and vocals) and percussionist Matt Jacobs present a blend of traditional and modern styles with Irish, English and American folk traditions.
As a trio, they aim to achieve the effect of a six-piece band, according to New Folk Booking.
Lehto and Wright both play accoustic and electric guitars, with Wright also on the bass pedals and Lehto also on the mandolin. Jacobs plays the drums and assorted percussion instruments.
Lehto & Wright will perform music from their first five acclaimed New Folk Records releases, “Ye Mariners All,” “The Further Adventures of Darling Cory,” “A Game of Chess,” “The Thrashing Machine and Other Stories,” and “Between the Jigs and the Reels,” in addition to material from their upcoming sixth studio album.
Though the group has not performed in Austin before, Wright played in Blooming Prairie in August with another band, Galactic Cowboy Orchestra.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and can be reserved at the Paramount box office, online at www.paramounttheatre.org, and by phone at 434-0934.
