The Austin baseball team lost two games to Rochester John Marshall on the Road Saturday.
The Packers (3-13 overall, 2-12 Big Nine) dropped the opener 9-3 and fell short 3-2 in the second game after Alex Nelson of JM lifted a walk-off single into deep left field to in the bottom of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie.
JM had two outs with no runners on base in the bottom of the seventh of the second game but had four straight hitters get on base.
The Rockets (8-7 overall) tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth by scoring on a passed ball.
“We need to play a complete game and we keep dropping these close ones,” Austin head coach Troy Watkins said. “We’ll take an early lead and it’s almost like we relax.”
The Packers led 2-0 in the first inning of the nightcap when Joey Swatfager knocked in a run with a double and Brady Klingfus singled in a run, but Austin, which had just four hits in each game, couldn’t score any more runs after having bases loaded with one out.
In the first game, Austin’s Anthony Condit hit a three-run double with two outs to make it a 5-3 JM lead in the fifth, but JM’s Anthony Johnson put it out of reach with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
