The Hayfield Heat split an amateur baseball double dip at Caledonia Monday.

Hayfield won the first game 5-1, before suffering their first loss of the year 8-5 in extra innings in the nightcap.

In the first game, Hayfield (3-1 overall) trailed 1-0 entering the fifth inning and that is when it got rolling.

With one out, Shane Barry singled and Mark Evjen was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Tyler Krekling ripped a double to left center, scoring both runner on base.

Kasey Krekling drew a walk and the Krekling brothers moved to second and third on a groundout by Shawn Palmer and scored when Travis Kauffman hti a two0out single up the middle.

Hayfield took the lead 4-3 in the fourth inning of the second game when Shawn Palmer was hit by a pitch and Travis Kauffman and Josh Toquam followed with back to back hits.

Caledonia took the lead back 5-4 with two runs of their own in the top half of fifth.

The Heat scored one run in the sixth inning to tie it up when Chris Pack laid down a suicide squeeze to score Mark Evjen.

The game went to extra innings where it saw Caledonia score three runs in the top half of the eighth.

Hayfield beat Wanamingo 14-0 over the weekend.
