Ione Carlsen

Ione Olive Carlsen, 86, of Blooming Prairie, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born to Osen and Ida (Thompson) Peterson on Aug. 21, 1923 in Austin. Ione lived and worked in Blooming Prairie for more than 50 years, graduating from Blooming Prairie High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Everett W. Carlsen on March 20, 1949, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW at the local and state level, serving as President for the State of Minnesota in 1986-1987. She worked at the Ford Garage as a bookkeeper. Everett and she traveled the country to many state and national conventions where they enjoyed meeting many new and old friends and were instrumental in the success of the local Servicemen’s Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan (Greg) Provo of Chanhassen, Pamela (Spencer) Schram of Richville; one son, Wayne (Jan) Carlsen of Palm Springs, Calif.; four granddaughters, Elyse and Ashley Provo of Chanhassen, Sarah Schram and Erica (Joel) Sniegowski of Bloomington; one grandson, Steven Ballard of Medford, Ore.; two brothers, Kinley (Joyce) Peterson and Harland Peterson of Blooming Prairie; also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded into heaven by her loving husband of 60 years, Everett, on Feb. 27, 2007.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 13, 2010, at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, with interment to follow at the Blooming Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home on Saturday June 12, 2010, from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie.
