Alicia Sforza, an eighth grader at Ellis Middle School, placed third in the 14U division of the USTA sanctioned Sibley Area Classic tennis tournament held in Mendota Heights over the weekend of July 24-25.

In order to take the third-place trophy, Sforza beat Paige McLeod of Vadnias Heights 6-4, 6-3, Lori Ahuja of Lakeville 4-6, 6-3. (10-4 super tiebreaker), and Taylor McLeod 6-4, 7-6.

She lost a match that consisted of two tie-breaker sets to Megan Brown of Elk River 6-6, (4-7), 6-6, (5-7).

The 14U singles competition included 17 competitors.
