Austin receives Twins grant

The Minnesota Twins are going to bat for Austin.
That’s because the city was selected to receive a $10,000 Fields for Kids grant from the ballclub. The money hasn’t arrived yet, but funds are planned to go to remodeling dugouts at Todd Park’s five-diamond complex.
Specifically, the plan calls for on-deck circles to be moved off of the playing fields and into extended dugout areas, which will get additional fencing. Windscreens would also be put up behind benches as a safety measure and to keep items inside the dugout.
Parks and recreation department director Kim Underwood said she expects work to begin this fall, with finishing touches coming next spring.
The city officially accepted the grant on Tuesday.
