An elderly Austin woman who was struck by a vehicle on Friday has been identified, and she is at a Rochester hospital with unknown injuries.

Jeannine Birk, 72, was hit at around 8 a.m. while crossing the street in the 600 block of 12th Avenue Southwest. She was initially taken to Austin Medical Center, but has since been transferred to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. An AMC spokeswoman said Monday that she did not know the extent of Birk’s injuries.

According to a police report, a 30-year-old male was leaving a nearby residence when he accidentally hit Birk. He is not likely to face any charges, according to police.

Birk was not in a crosswalk at the time of the incident, the report states. The report does not indicate how fast the driver was going, but it likely wasn’t very fast because he was pulling away from a home.
