Charles Carlson

Charles E. Carlson, 80 of Austin, Minn., died Thursday morning at the Adams Healthcare Center.
He was born April 30, 1930, in Rose Creek, the son of Alfred and Florence (Christopherson) Carlson. He attended school in Austin and enter the U.S. Army, serving 23 years and retiring as a command sargent major. On Dec. 4, 1952, Charles was married to Margaretha Tillemans at Valkenburg, Holland. After retiring from the Army, they returned to the Austin area where Charles worked as the support group supervisor with the Minnesota Sheriff’s Youth Ranch.
He enjoyed doing repair work and fixing things as well as carpentry. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Charlie was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Eagles Club.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Margaretha, in 2008; a grandson, Phillip Hubbard; and brother, Donald Carlson.
He is survived by his daughter, Alexandra Carlson, of Austin; sister and brother-in-law, Janeth and Keith Alm, Austin; sister-in-law, Della Carlson, Omaha, Neb.; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday July 27 at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with Austin Post No. 91 American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post No. 1216 Veterans of Foreign Wars in charge of military rites. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Casket bearers will be, Donald Carlson, Kenny Carlson, John Alm, Josh Alm and Sam Alm.
