Shopko has no plans to close its doors in Austin.
Jenn Steffen, Shopko manager of corporate communications, confirmed this week that Shopko has no plans to shut down its Austin branch.
“We do not have any stores that we are planning on closing,” she said.
A rumor circulating throughout Austin that the store was set to close could likely be because of the current state of the economy, according to Steffen. Though Shopko is not closing its stores, other large retailers have taken a hit.
On the other end of the spectrum, Shopko is opening branches and is remodeling its current stores to fit its new style and motto: “My life. My style. My store.”
Steffen said plans are in the works to revamp all Shopko stores, though Austin’s is not scheduled for the makeover during the company’s current fiscal year, which wraps up at the end of January 2011. Steffen is not able to say at this time when Austin is due for the remodel.
