An Austin man was arrested and cited for theft after police pulled him over early Tuesday and reportedly found a large amount of stolen metal in his backseat.
Chad Sabanish, 36, was cited for trespassing and misdemeanor theft. He is awaiting a court appearance.
According to a police report, a squad car on patrol in Austin’s Industrial Park area noticed a suspicious vehicle at around 3:40 a.m. The squad car began to follow the vehicle, which appeared to be dragging in the back. A stop was made near McFarland Truck Lines.
The officer spoke with Sabanish, who had a number of metal objects in his car. According to the report, this included four manhole covers, six iron railroad sections and several steel drums.
A specific value of the metal objects is not listed in the report.
