Mary Schmidt

Mary Schmidt passed away peacefully on July 1, 2010, due to cardiac failure.
Mary was born in Austin on Jan. 18, 1919, to Wilbur and Catherine (Farrell) Skinner. She attended Austin Catholic Schools and worked at Hormel Foods until joining the Marine Corps in 1943. She was united in marriage to Woodrow W. Hull in Austin and together had four children. They were divorced after 30 years of marriage. Mary later married Bernard Schmidt of Austin and moved to the Nisswa, Minn., area. About 10 years ago, Mary and Benny moved to Owatonna, Minn., where they resided until her death.
Mary had a passion for quilting. Many of her quilts now adorn the homes of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, swimming, bridge, sewing, knitting, crocheting and decorating.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Woodrow Hull; sister, Margaret Johnson; and brothers, Farrell and Bill Skinner.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard; daughters, Bridget Olson of Owatonna, Katie (George) Lawrence of Costa Mesa, Calif., Patti Kitchings of Austin; and son, Mike (Jo) Hull of Austin; sister-in-law, Shirley Skinner of Austin; grandchildren, Corie (Craig) Hollerud, Trevor (Erin) Olson, Jennifer (Tim) Coates, Sam (Keri) Hull, Sarah (Troy) Diekman and Andrew Hull; great-grandchildren, Kyra, Erika, Atlas, Zepplin, Rebecca, Emma, Wyatt, Norah and Ava; many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91 and VFW Post #1216.
